(N) NEVER SAY NEVER (#A2ZChallenge 2019)

I have observed a typical pattern in my behavior - I have said words like No and Never with conviction but later I have happily said Yes to those things!

These usually pertain to various decisions. For instance, I was convinced that I do not want to do an MBA. I was very sure that I never wanted to marry. I was very clear in my mind that I never wanted to have children. But I did all of these things 😁

Eventually, I tend to do the opposite of what I never wanted to do. This habit has also been prevalent in the small decisions of my life. I can recall various incidents when my friends planned a weekend outing, I would blatantly say No but ended up going with them. At other instances in the past, my H would persuade me to eat outside, I would simply deny and a few moments later ended up eating in a restaurant.

But as I tread on the journey of life, I think it is time that I change this attitude. I should be thorough with the pros and cons of any decision before saying yes or no.

I do not want to end up saying No and Never to my kid and then later give in. I want to be sure that what I do is the right thing for her/him.

Have you also noticed such a pattern in your behavior? Do share your viewpoints.

(These AtoZ Challenge posts pertain to my thought process, physical and mental changes, stress levels, perspective, journey and experience as a first-time mother who has yet not delivered her baby.)

  1. The future is so uncertain. It is wise to avoid verbal absolutes in talking about it. Weighing all the foreseeable outcomes is best as you say. Yet, none of us can see clearly what is ahead. Do the best we can with what we have. :-)

  2. Kislaya,

It pays to never say never because like you, I learned that's not a good practice because sometimes never becomes a yes. :) Thank you for visiting my A2Z Little Mermaid art sketch ‘NEPTUNE’ post yesterday. Happy a2zing, dearie!

  3. Hahaha! Yeah, it happens often!
I guess as we grow older, our perspectives and aspirations change. So what was once unthinkable, suddenly becomes just the thing we want. I think there's usually no sense in making such long-term decisions as we do each time we say "Never"! :D

  4. I think we all have our own unique styles and patterns of decision making. Perhaps if yours is to initially say no and then later consider otherwise, you simply need to be aware that you time to carefully think things over before committing to a decision. Some of us are more careful and don't like things sprung upon us because it feels like we might lose control, and others are utterly spontaneous and don't want to dampen their passionate responses with too much consideration. And there are all sorts of patterns in between. None of them are right or wrong, nor is it necessary to judge them. But knowing our own patterns can help us decide how we want to act. Perhaps you need simply to say, "I need more time to think about that before deciding."

And I trust you'll figure out how to respond to your child. The thing that we often forget is that children teach us as much as we teach them. You'll be learning together in relationship. :-)

  5. I try not to use the never word very often. I also like to be consistent with the kids and you know if you say never and then change your mind the kids will jump on that and use it the next time! Thanks again for coming to visit me!
